Renovation of Vintage Musical Instruments
When you buy a vintage musical instrument, there is usually some damages on it, bumps,distortion,bad sound etc. This is not things you can fix on your own unless you are an expert.When going to a workshop they will appraise the instrument and give you a price for a repair.If you think it will be too expensive , go to another workshop and get a new price.Maybe they offer you a much cheaper renovation.
If you have a saxophone or another brass instrument which need a total renovation this is what they do:
-Improvement of wear in the shaftsleeve area and support.Remove clicking sounds,noise.
-Distortion in flaps,stakes and supports is straighten.
-Whole instrument is demounted.
-Small bumps directed.
-Possibly plangrinding toneholes.
-Springs are checked and adjusted.Replaced when necessary.
-The neck is checked for leaky units in the handlepart and around octaveholes.
-The instrument is placed in a special solution for careful cleaning.
-Profound interior/exterior wash.
-Where the paint is gone the brass is depth cleaned.
-The paint will be covered with polish.
-Silverplated instruments is carefully polished.
-Screws and shafts cleaned.
-Pads mounted.
-Adjustcork/felt/bumpers etc. assembled and customized.
-New cork customized for the mouthpiece.
-Mouthpiece is cleaned with "a secret method".
-Flap system is installed and adjusted.
-All joints are lubricated.
-The instrument is test played,checked and adjusted for.
