The Vintage Bass Guitar

The bass guitar as invented by Leo Fender in 1951, in the still existing Fender company. They created a bass which was called Precision Bass. The name precision came beacuse the bass had cross bands which separated the neck into accurate tone heights. Therefore it became easier to play clean than on a band less contra bass.
There is two basic types of the el-bass; fretted and fretless. The fretted bass has no bands, but instead a smooth neck like a contra bass or a violin. The sound in a fretless bass is much softer than in a fretted. This bass variant demands more presicion to get a clean tone. Both variants is common and have different areas in different music genres. The fretless bass is especially good for jazz, but the fretted bass is also much used here. The fretted is probably the most common bass in the other music genre.
Finger Technique
There is two common playing techniques, playing with the fingers and playing with a plecter. Using plecter on a bass is similar to a guitar. The difference is that it is mostly just used downstrokes. This is clearly individual from one bassist to another. Plecter on a bass gives the bass a discant and hard pitch. It is easier to play faster with ordinary finger usage, and the tone becomes more even. This technique is called pick. With ordinary finger technique on bass uses ideally the pointing finger and the long finger. This technique provides a rounder tone than plecter usage, and gives more control and freedom. For instance you can play on several strings simultaniously.
Slapping and Popping
Slapping is a finger technique with thumb and pointing finger usage. The technique is about hitting the wrist, with the thumb first, against the strings. Then place the pointing finger under the string and pull out. This is called popping. It makes the strings to vibrate out and in towards the bass and the strings hits the bands. This creates a hard and sharp sound. This playing style is often used in the music genre funk.
Similar to a guitar, one can "tap" on the neck. This means pressing the fingers hard on to the string so it lies between your finger and the band. Here can also both arms be used. Either together with hammer-on`s and pull-off`s,
Strings
Usually a bass has 4 strings, but there is guitars with 5 or 6 strings. As with another stringed instruments there is basses with a more "exotic" number of strings, as two stringers, three stringers, seven stringers and so on. After the principle of the twelve stringer guitar there exist double cored el-basses, which for every basic string has an octave string that clings along. Basses with only one or two strings are also produced for those with special needs.
Electronics
The el-bass is equipped with magnetic or electronis pickups, that catches up the vibrations from the strings. Modern el-basses have likely "activ" electronics, which are combined with a bettery driven pre-amplifier that are built-in in the bass. With this technology one gets a better ressonance from over-tones, and one can raise or lower the high and deep tones. With passive electronics one can only lower the high or deep tones. Lately there has turned up optical systems based on piezo electrisity, that makes it possible to use non-magnetic strings.
To gain high volume on an el-bas one has to have a bass amplifier, which the bass is connected to through a jack cabel or a XLR-cabel.
